Australia Bans Under-16s from Reddit and Kick in Social Media Crackdown
Australia has extended its social media restrictions to include Reddit and the livestreaming platform Kick, banning users under 16 from accessing these services starting December 10. These platforms now join Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Snapchat, Threads, and YouTube under landmark legislation aimed at protecting minors online.

The updated rules mandate that Reddit and Kick prohibit users under 16 from creating or maintaining accounts. Communications Minister Anika Wells stated that companies that fail to comply may face fines up to A$50 million (around $33 million).
"There is no excuse for failure to implement this law," Wells said, emphasizing that platforms are already equipped with the technology used for targeted advertising and content delivery.
