A gripping production of the thriller classic The Birds is soon arriving at Bridgnorth's Theatre on the Steps. This show marks the inaugural performance of the town’s new professional repertory group, Aethelflaed Theatre Company.
The play, running from Thursday, November 13 to Saturday, November 15, is Conor McPherson’s adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s iconic short story. It promises an intense evening filled with suspense and psychological drama.
This new company is a partnership between Theatre on the Steps and director Naomi Coleman. Their goal is to deliver bold, high-quality theatre to Bridgnorth while creating professional opportunities for local artists and theatre practitioners.
Set against a backdrop where menacing flocks of birds attack suddenly and without warning, the story centers on Nat and Diane, strangers who seek shelter in a remote seaside house. As supplies dwindle and tensions rise, their fragile calm is disrupted by the arrival of a mysterious young woman.
McPherson’s adaptation reimagines du Maurier’s tale as a tense psychological drama exploring themes of fear, trust, and survival.
Nikki Genner, artistic director at Theatre on the Steps, said: “This is such an exciting moment for us and for Bridgnorth.”
