Paul Rodgers pulls out of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony

Paul Rodgers Withdraws from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction

Paul Rodgers, lead singer of Bad Company, has decided not to attend this Saturday's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Los Angeles, where the band will be honored. Instead, drummer Simon Kirke will accept the award and perform at the event.

Statements from Paul Rodgers

"My hope was to be at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and to perform for the fans, but at this time I have to prioritise my health," said the former Free frontman. "I have no problem singing, it's the stress of everything else."

"Simon, along with some outstanding musicians, will be stepping in for me - guaranteed to rock."

Simon Kirke on Reuniting with Rodgers

"We're going to play, and whatever Paul chooses is fine by me! Just to play with him again is going to be a real thrill for me. I missed playing with the band. I miss playing particularly with Paul. He's such a wonderful singer."

Rodgers’ Health and Possible Ceremony Participation

Rodgers has suffered two major strokes and 11 minor strokes over the past decade. He told Rolling Stone he "may well" perform at the ceremony but seemed more confident about accepting the honor.

"I’m a little bit nervous. If we’ve got to make a speech, I’ll be quite honest. I’m not used to really making speeches of any nature, but I’ll be ok."

Simon Kirke will represent Bad Company and ensure their performance rocks the ceremony in Paul Rodgers' absence.
