Sony has released an update that turns the PlayStation Portal into a full-fledged handheld gaming console. The new feature enables users to stream PlayStation 5 titles directly from the cloud, eliminating the need for a console connection.
Previously, the PlayStation Portal functioned as a companion device, mirroring games from a PS5 via Remote Play over Wi-Fi. The latest update removes this limitation, allowing players to access cloud-based PS5 titles independently.
Through integration with the PlayStation Plus Premium library, players can now enjoy hundreds of games without owning a physical PlayStation 5. The system leverages the same cloud infrastructure used on consoles and PCs, offering gameplay up to 60fps with adaptive video quality that adjusts to network performance.
The Portal now delivers console-level experiences directly from the cloud, redefining what a handheld PlayStation can do.
Sony also optimized the firmware to cut input latency and enhance DualSense haptic feedback during cloud sessions. These improvements ensure smooth performance across genres and create a more responsive cloud gaming experience.
The latest update transforms the PlayStation Portal into an independent handheld console, offering PS5 cloud gaming with improved performance and access to a vast library of titles.
