Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has commented on the rumors about the poisoning of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, stating that they are unfounded.
"We, based solely on humanitarian considerations, have granted asylum to Bashar al-Assad and his family. He does not have any problems with living in our capital, there have been no poisonings. If such rumors appear, I leave them on the conscience of those who spread them,"
Lavrov said in response to journalists' requests to comment on the reports. The British media had reported that Assad was poisoned on January 2, 2025, and was treated at home.
The rumor was first reported by the British tabloid The Sun, which claimed that Assad began coughing and choking heavily, and tests revealed poisoning.
