Jennifer Lawrence humorously described collaborating with Robert Pattinson in the film Die My Love as a form of “total revenge” following her unsuccessful audition for the Twilight series.
In an alternate reality, Lawrence could have played Bella Swan opposite Pattinson's Edward Cullen. She shared on The Rewatchables podcast in 2023 that the studio rejected her immediately and she didn’t even receive a callback.
Now, 15 years and two major franchises later, Lawrence and Pattinson finally appear together in Mubi’s new movie Die My Love. At the film’s New York premiere, Lawrence told Variety,
“Yeah, it’s the total revenge that I’ve wanted.”
Directed by Lynne Ramsay, her first feature since 2017’s You Were Never Really Here, the film is a psychodrama. Lawrence plays a writer whose mental health deteriorates amid a volatile marriage and motherhood's challenges.
Although their characters exchange heated insults, Lawrence says their working relationship was much quieter. She noted,
“My favorite part of working with him was probably that we could be in the same room, but not talk for a really long time. I really appreciate that in a coworker.”
Pattinson recalled watching Lawrence for the first time in Winter’s Bone (2010), where she portrayed a struggling teenager searching for her father in the Ozarks.
Jennifer Lawrence embraces her reunion with Robert Pattinson in Die My Love as a playful, long-awaited comeback after her initial casting rejection in Twilight.
