Cochrane may become the location for the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary triathlon if town council approves a new proposal. Platinum Racing Events, the organizers of Ironman 70.3 Calgary, suggested relocating the event to Cochrane because Harmony Park is unavailable due to construction.
Now in its 17th year, the event is expected to draw about 1,100 athletes from up to 26 countries, along with over 500 spectators and 300 volunteers. Around 40% of participants are anticipated to travel more than 300 kilometers to compete. Last year, athletes from 16 countries participated.
"Athletes will swim 1.9 kilometres at Ghost Lake, cycle 90 kilometres along rural roads north of Cochrane, and run 21.1 kilometres along the town’s pathway network and river corridor."
The Historic Cochrane Ranche is proposed to serve as the event’s headquarters.
Summary: If town council approves, Cochrane will host the 2026 Ironman 70.3 Calgary, attracting international athletes to a scenic course featuring swimming, cycling, and running stages.
