Canadiens goalie Jakub Dobes was visibly upset after a 4-3 overtime defeat against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. Dobes made 24 saves on 28 shots but suffered his first loss of the season, dropping his record to 6-0-1 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.
“We played good enough to win. Just not good enough from my side.”
Dobes had tears in his eyes while speaking to reporters in the Canadiens’ locker room, expressing deep personal disappointment. He noted that losing in overtime to the Devils had happened before, both last season and this season.
“It happened last year, it happened this year, lose to those guys in OT. So just disappointed in myself, that’s pretty much it.”
Last season, Dobes made 40 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils at the Bell Centre in January. That was his first NHL loss after starting the season with five straight wins following his call-up from the AHL's Laval Rocket after Christmas.
After the game in New Jersey, Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson commented on Dobes's emotional response:
“We all know that the hockey he’s played to start the year is impressive. But it just shows the character and passion in this room. Everyone holds themselves to a high standard and wants to do what they can to help the team win.”
Jakub Dobes's dedication and emotional investment highlight his commitment to the Canadiens and the sport.
