Marco Penge is looking forward to testing his skills against Masters Champion Rory McIlroy at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. This will be their first time playing together in a professional event.
After securing his card at the final regular season event in South Korea last year, Penge has had an outstanding 2025. He became the first player to win three times this season, with victories at the Hainan Classic, Danish Golf Championship, and the Open de España presented by Madrid.
With two DP World Tour events left this season, Penge is second in the Race to Dubai Rankings, just behind World Number Two Rory McIlroy.
At Yas Links, Penge will tee off for the first two rounds alongside McIlroy and fellow Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton.
"For me, he (McIlroy) is the best player in my generation of kind of watching golf. He's been so successful, and I think a lot of guys in my age group really look up to him not just as a golfer but as a person."
"Yeah, I compare a lot of parts of my game to him. I am excited to see what I think my strengths are compared to him on Thursday and see where I can improve."
"I know on Thursday morning when I step on the tee I'm going to have some adrenaline because I'm playing with one of the best players in the world for the first time. I don't think I'm going to be too nervous."
Penge is motivated to close the ranking gap and is eager to learn from and challenge one of golf’s top players during this important event.
Summary: Marco Penge anticipates a thrilling experience playing alongside Rory McIlroy in Abu Dhabi, marking a key moment as he aims to elevate his game and challenge the world’s best.
