In his new memoir, We Did It, Kid, Sir Anthony Hopkins offers a deeply personal message to his estranged daughter, Abigail Hopkins. The 87-year-old Academy Award-winning actor uses his book to reach out emotionally to his only child, hoping for reconciliation after years apart.
Hopkins recently discussed their strained relationship during a New York Times interview while promoting the memoir, revealing that a recent effort to reconnect was ignored. The actor shares Abigail with his first wife, Petronella Barker, whom he divorced in 1972.
Hopkins explained that his current wife, Stella Arroyave, had sent Abigail an invitation to visit them, but it went unanswered. He told the New York Times on October 25,
"My wife, Stella, sent an invitation [to Abigail] to come and see us. I wish her well, but I'm not going to waste blood over that. If you want to waste your life being in resentment, fine, go ahead."
In a hopeful tone within his memoir released on November 4, Hopkins directly addresses Abigail:
"I hope my daughter knows that my door is always open to her. I want her to be well and happy."
Sir Anthony Hopkins expresses a sincere wish for reconciliation with his estranged daughter Abigail in his memoir, while accepting her choice if she remains distant.
