Dr Hilary Jones, a regular guest on Lorraine Kelly's ITV show, revealed he once appeared on air while intoxicated and later apologized to the show's producers.
The 72-year-old medical expert has been a trusted contributor for several years, sharing insights on various health issues.
Dr Hilary recalled an early broadcasting moment when his professionalism faltered. After running the New York Marathon, he met with two brothers to celebrate but didn’t eat before consuming a significant amount of beer. He was then scheduled to do a live segment from a remote studio in Times Square with Lorraine.
While trying to set up the remote camera, Dr Hilary found himself unexpectedly live and facing questions from Lorraine.
“All I remember was giggling and laughing and talking rubbish because I was actually a bit drunk. Afterwards I thought, ‘They’re going to sack me, I’ve made a big faux pas. What did I say?'”
Worried about his on-air behavior, Dr Hilary called the show’s bosses to apologize the next day.
“I phoned them and said, 'I’m really sorry' and they said, ‘Why? You sounded brilliant, you just sounded happy! You sounded euphoric and it was really energetic and lovely.’ So, I got away with it.”
Dr Hilary Jones humorously admits to being slightly drunk during a live TV segment but was reassured by producers who appreciated his upbeat energy.
