Edie Falco, best known for her Emmy-winning performances in The Sopranos and Nurse Jackie, expressed enthusiasm about taking on a female superhero role, seeing it as an exciting new challenge.
Passion for Complex Characters
Falco thrives on portraying layered, complicated characters and has never met a role she felt unable to handle. She explained,
“Never have I said I can’t do that. You sort of find a way you can go and see, because you’re able to know you have to stop before it is dangerous. And I’ve been in therapy for 7,000 years.”
She prefers complex roles, adding, “To play someone with a less complicated life is less interesting.”
Career Reflections and Opportunities
At 62, Falco feels fortunate to have portrayed a diverse range of multifaceted female characters. She shared,
“I’ve been very lucky that kind of since I started working, female characters are getting more interesting and complicated, I feel like I’m riding this wave of really interesting and complicated female characters.”
She believes avoiding early typecasting helped her career, commenting,
“I imagine if you’re only ever playing young, beautiful, sexy women, it’s going to get harder as you get older.”
Future Aspirations
Looking ahead, Falco is intrigued by the possibility of portraying a political figure. She joked,
“Maybe I can get something out of my system.”
