Before saying goodbye to the hit Netflix show, David Harbour walked the streets of New York with Esquire Spain. A version of this article appeared in the November 2025 issue of Esquire Spain magazine.
On November 26, Netflix’s Stranger Things will begin its long-awaited three-part farewell. The first four episodes of season eight will be released on Thanksgiving Day, followed by three more on Christmas Day. The series finale will air on New Year’s Eve, marking the end of the streaming platform’s most successful original series.
This finale concludes a decade-long journey for David Harbour, who earned international fame as Hawkins, Indiana's police chief Jim Hopper. The anticipation throughout 2025 brought intense media attention. However, the release of a surprise album last week dramatically increased the public’s focus on Harbour.
In September, prior to the pop-based drama surrounding the album, Rafael Sánchez Casademont from Esquire Spain interviewed Harbour about his career, the emotional conclusion of Stranger Things, and his future plans. This interview has been edited for clarity and brevity.
“When I was a kid it was this magical place. I grew up about an hour outside the city, in a suburban town in Westchester.”
Author’s summary: David Harbour shares reflections on concluding a decade as Jim Hopper, the deep connection to New York, and what lies ahead after Stranger Things.
