Engineering firm Jacobs has announced its partnership with DataVolt to provide technical and environmental advisory services for the Oxagon port project, part of Saudi Arabia’s Neom development. The collaboration forms part of a $5 billion (£3.8 billion) initiative focused on sustainable infrastructure and technological innovation.
“Jacobs said it had been appointed to provide technical and environmental advisory services to DataVolt as part of a $5bn wider package of work to deliver a fully sustainable, net-zero data centre ecosystem.”
Oxagon is one of Neom’s key megaprojects, envisioned as an advanced industrial and shipping hub. With access to the Suez Canal in the north and the Red Sea in the south, the port is strategically positioned to connect Europe, Africa, and Asia.
DataVolt is developing an AI-driven data centre campus within Oxagon, designed to run solely on renewable energy. According to Jacobs, the facility will incorporate advanced cooling systems and resource-efficient design to achieve a net-zero operational standard.
“The campus will run entirely on renewable energy, using advanced cooling systems and energy-efficient architecture to reduce its environmental footprint.”
The project aims to address growing global demand for AI data processing while reducing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly development strategies.
Jacobs supports DataVolt’s AI infrastructure in Neom’s Oxagon city, emphasizing sustainability and renewable energy despite ongoing scrutiny over human rights issues linked to the project.
