9News Melbourne will bid farewell to one of its most beloved figures this month, as celebrated weather presenter Livinia Nixon prepares to sign off on November 18. Livinia, aged 50, has been a staple of the network since 1997 and has presented the weather for 9News Melbourne since 2004.
On Friday, Livinia revealed her unexpected decision to leave her role, choosing to prioritize her family as her sons begin their senior school years.
"After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I've decided to step back from this role," she said. "My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It's been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers' homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family."
Livinia described how presenting the weather deeply influenced both her life and career, expressing gratitude for the opportunity but emphasizing the importance of this timely decision.
"Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me," she said. "When I discussed it with our boys, they said, 'We're pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.'"
Although stepping back from her long-standing position as the weeknight weather presenter, Livinia will continue to be involved with the Nine Network.
Livinia Nixon’s decision highlights the challenges of balancing a high-profile media career with family commitments, marking the end of an era for 9News weather presentation.
