Rick Stein on opening a restaurant in Coogee, and what he really thinks of Aussie diners

Rick Stein on Opening a Restaurant in Coogee

Some celebrity chefs divide opinion or appeal to specific groups, but Rick Stein is universally loved. The renowned UK chef and TV personality has been a key part of the east coast dining scene for over 15 years, visiting so often he’s practically an unofficial Aussie.

This summer, he is set to bring his signature style of simple yet spectacular seafood to Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Stein already owns two thriving NSW restaurants: Bannisters by the Sea in Mollymook, opened in 2009, and Bannisters Port Stephens, launched in 2018.

New Ventures in Sydney

After seven years without plans for another Australian location, Stein and his wife Sarah (“Sas”) announced earlier this year they will open a 224-seat restaurant at the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach called Rick Stein at Coogee Beach.

Working with Salter Brothers

“The truth of it is that the two Bannisters hotels and my restaurants were taken over by [investment management group] Salter Brothers in October last year,” Stein reveals. “That was a bit of a surprise. But actually starting to work with Salter Brothers, I realised how professional they were and how much I liked working with them.”

This partnership marks a new chapter for Stein’s Australian ventures, highlighting professionalism and mutual respect.

Summary

Rick Stein’s new Coogee Beach restaurant will reflect his popular seafood style, supported by a successful partnership with Salter Brothers, promising exciting dining experiences in Sydney.
