Mel Tracina is leaving her life in Melbourne to pursue her dream job as the host of the highly anticipated return of Big Brother Australia on the Gold Coast. The 36-year-old Nova presenter and cultural correspondent for The Cheap Seats is thrilled to revive the show that shaped a generation of Aussie reality TV fans.
“I’m feeling as excited as every other OG fan,” Mel laughs, adding, “There’s that moment where I have to remind myself that I don’t get to sit at home and watch it – I’m working!”
Mel loved the original series’ 24/7 live filming and the many spontaneous, iconic moments that captivated audiences. She hopes this season will deliver the same genuine and unforgettable experiences.
“It just takes somebody being organic. At the time, you didn’t know it would become a part of Aussie culture, like the saying: ‘Game on, moles.’ That authenticity is what we latch onto.”
Reflecting on moments like Sara-Marie Fedele’s famous bum dance, Mel highlights the power of authenticity on the show. She also fondly remembers the romances that blossomed as housemates spent extensive time together.
“I loved the love stories,” she reminisces.
Mel Tracina eagerly embraces her new role hosting Big Brother Australia, excited to recreate the authentic, unforgettable moments and connections that made the original series a cultural phenomenon.
