Plan for Dashboard Mapping Africa’s Health Supply Chain – Africa CDC

A well-functioning supply chain is essential for any health system. However, across Africa, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, disjointed logistics, and limited real-time data often hinder the timely delivery of vital health products, including vaccines, diagnostics, medicines, nutrition supplies, and emergency kits.

In response, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) and UNICEF have partnered under an expanded Joint Action Plan (2024–2027) to strengthen health supply chains throughout Africa. The collaboration aims to enhance the continent’s ability to respond swiftly to public health emergencies and improve consistent access to life-saving services and products.

Introducing the Continental Supply Chain Snapshot

A key part of this initiative is the creation of a new dashboard that will map Africa’s health supply chain comprehensively. This tool will provide real-time insights to improve coordination and delivery efficiency across the region.

“Strong supply chains save lives. When health products move efficiently, health systems thrive,” said Africa CDC Director-General, Dr Jean Kaseya, highlighting the importance of the partnership.

This flagship project is designed to boost transparency, responsiveness, and capacity in managing health emergencies and essential medical supplies.

Author’s summary: Africa CDC and UNICEF have launched a joint initiative to build a real-time dashboard mapping the continent’s health supply chain, aiming to improve response and access to critical health products.
