Calgary Police Arrest 20 in Downtown Enforcement Blitz

Dozens of Calgary police officers, transit peace officers, and social agency workers descended on the city's downtown core on Wednesday.

Operation Order Launch

Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan, speaking before a group of uniformed officers and partner agencies, declared that “enough is enough.” This marked her first major public initiative since taking office earlier this year, introducing “Operation Order,” an extensive enforcement campaign aimed at reducing crime and social disorder in downtown Calgary.

The operation is part of the wider “Safer Calgary” initiative, with enforcement focusing on areas such as East Village, Stephen Avenue, and Century Gardens.

Enforcement Actions and Results

The mission involved enforcing laws, issuing tickets, making arrests, and connecting vulnerable people with support services. By mid-afternoon Wednesday, the following actions were reported:

Among those ticketed was Grant Robinson, fined $120 for discarding a cigarette butt.

“This is gonna stop me from probably another month because I have to pay it,” Robinson said. “I won’t be able to save money because I have to give the government money.”

Reporters accompanied officers as they patrolled back alleys and transit platforms throughout the operation.

Summary: Operation Order demonstrated Calgary’s commitment to tackling downtown crime and disorder through coordinated enforcement and support services under Chief McLellan’s leadership.
